All have sinned
Scripture very plainly teaches that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” The Bible also declares: As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.” (Romans 3: 10-12). Only one man, Jesus Christ lived a perfect life without sin. Everyone other than himself is a sinner in the eyes of God and is incapable of pleasing him.
Does it include the prophets?
But what about the prophets, their character and their actions?
In spite of their great piety, let us not forget, the prophets were only men. They too are part of the world that has disobeyed, and they, like the rest of men, need the forgiveness of God. Muslims point the finger at the Old Testament objecting that it must have been falsified, for how is it that he mentions the sins of the prophets when: “Everyone knows that a prophet called Allah was free from all sin. ”
But this does not agree with the testimony of the Koran that all the prophets, except Jesus, have sinned. Let me give you some examples (quotes from the Quran of Abdallah Yusuf Ali):
Adam: Sura Ta-Ha 20: 121: “Both of them (Adam and Eve) ate of it. Then their nakedness appeared to them. They began to cover themselves with leaves of paradise. So Adam disobeyed his Lord and he went astray.” Muslim scholars are unanimous in declaring that disobedience is one of the great sins in the Surah. The Djinns (Al-Jinn) 72:23: “[I can only pass on] a communication and messages [from Allah] . And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger will have the fire of Hell to abide therein forever. “
Jonah: Surah 37: 139 – 142: “Jonah was indeed of the number of messengers. When he fled to the packed ship, he took part in the draw which designated him to be thrown [into the sea]. The fish swallowed him because he was guilty.
Abraham: Surah The Poets 26: 82 quotes from Abraham’s words, “It is from Him that I covet the forgiveness of my sins on the Day of Retribution. Surah Abraham 14:41: “O our Lord! Forgive me, my father and mother and the believers, on the day of the accountability. “
Moses: Surah 28:16: “He said,” Lord, I have wronged myself; forgive me”. And He forgave him. He truly is the Forgiving, the Merciful! Surah Al-Araf 7: 151: “And Moses said,” O my Lord, forgive me and my brother, and bring us into Your mercy, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.”
Noah: Surah Noah 71:28: “Lord! Forgive me, and my father and mother …” Surah Hud 11:46-47: He said, “O Noah, he is not of your family, for he has committed an infamous act. Do not ask me what you do not know. I exhort you that you may not be in the number of the ignorant. ” Then Noah said, “Lord, I seek Your protection… And if You do not forgive me and do not have mercy on me, I will be among the losers. “
David (Daud): Surah Sad 38:24: “David thought that We had put him to the test. So he begged for forgiveness from his Lord and fell prostrate and repented.”
Solomon: Sura Sad 38:34 -35: “And We certainly had tested Solomon by placing a body on his seat. Then he repented. He said, “Lord, forgive me and give me a kingdom such that no one after me will have the like.”
Muhammad: In Surah Muhammad 47:19, we see Allah calling Muhammad to repent of his sin: “Know then that there is no god but Allah, and implore forgiveness for your sin, As well as for believers and believers. Allah knows your activities (on earth) and your place of rest (in the afterlife).” In Arabic, it is emphatic: You Muhammad, repent of your sin.
The Hadiths, Islam’s second source of authority after the Quran, claim that Muhammad was a sinner.
In one narrated by Abu Hurayrah it is said: “The prophet of Allah (Muhammad) used to observe a (very brief) time of silence between the takbir from entering into prayer and reciting the Koran. I say to the Prophet, “continued Abu Hurayrah,” O Messenger of Allah, let my father and my mother ransom you! What do you say in a low voice during the silence between the takbir and the recitation (of the Koran)? “Behold,” he said to me, “what I say, Lord, purify me from my sins as You have moved east from the west! Lord, purify – Let me shed my sins, as one purifies the white coat of defilement! Lord, wash my sins with water, ice and hail! ‘(Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 12, Number 711). Also, according to Abu Hurayrah: “I have heard the prophet Of Allah say: In the name of Allah! I ask Allaah for forgiveness and repent me through the day more than 70 times.” Abu Hurayra also reports that he heard the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say, “Every descendant of Adam is touched by a demon at the very moment of his birth. The creature thus touched makes a cry. Only Mary and her son were exceptions to this rule. And to Abu Hurayra to recite Surah (3:36): “… and I place her (Mary), and her descendants, under Thy protection against the Devil, banish him” (Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 60, 3431).
All these Hadith teach us that Mohammed was indeed a sinful man.
What about Jesus? Jesus is unique, he is perfectly holy. All men in the history of this world need repentance and forgiveness of the sins they have committed in one way or another, except Jesus. He never had the slightest bad thought, never uttered evil words and never did anything wrong. That is why he never repented and never needed to be forgiven for anything.
The fact is that all men have sinned, including all the prophets, with the exception of Jesus is a teaching common to both Islam and Christianity: Abu-Horaira said: “The Prophet said: The Devil strikes with his finger in the belly of all the sons of Adam, at the moment when they are born; There was no exception except for Jesus the son of Mary … the Devil struck only the placenta. Hadith 59:11 (Number 18) The Koran says, “The angel said to Mary,” I am a messenger of your Lord to give you a pure son.”
The injil also speaks of the purity of Jesus: “[Jesus], the one who has not known sin.” “He was tempted like us in all things, without committing any sin.” (Hebrews 4:15) Jesus said to his opponents, “Which of you can convict me of sin?” (John 8:46) Only Jesus was pure and sinless (1 Peter 2:22, Hebrews 7:26, John 8:46, Luke 4: 34). It is also for this reason that he can perfectly save those who approach God through him.
