Was Mohammed sinless?
In Surah Mohammed 47:19, we see Allah calling Mohammed to repent of his sin: “Know then that in truth there is no god but Allah, and implore forgiveness for your sin, for believers and believers. Allah knows your activities (on earth) and your place of rest (in the afterlife) “. In Arabic, it is emphatic: “You Mohammed, repent of your sin.”
The Hadiths, Islam’s second source of authority after the Quran, claim that Mohammed was a sinner.
In one reported by Abu Hurayra, it is said that: “The prophet of Allah (Mohammed) used to observe a (very brief) time of silence between the entry of the Qur’an into prayer and obedience. I say to the Prophet, “continued Abu Hurayrah, ‘O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother serve you ransom! What do you say in a low voice during the silence between the takbir and the recitation of the Qur’an? ‘Behold,’ he replied, ‘what I say,’ Lord, cleanse me from my sins as You have driven East from the West! Lord, cleanse me from my sins as one purifies the white coat of defilement! Lord, wash my sins with water, ice and hail! (Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 12, Number 711).
According to Abu Hurayrah, “I have heard the Prophet of Allah say, ‘In the name of Allah! I ask forgiveness of Allah and repent me in the course of more than one day. “(Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 75, Number 319).
Abu Hurayra also reports that he heard the Prophet of Allah say: ‘Every descendant of Adam is touched by a demon at the very moment of birth. The creature thus touched makes a cry. Only Mary and her son were exceptions to this rule.”
All these Hadith teach us that Mohammed was indeed a sinful man.
What about Jesus? Jesus is unique, he is perfectly holy. All men in the history of this world need repentance and forgiveness of the sins they have committed in one way or another, except Jesus. He never had the slightest bad thought, never uttered evil words and never did anything wrong. That is why he never repented and never needed to be forgiven for anything. Only Jesus was pure and sinless (1 Peter 2:22, Hebrews 7:26, John 8:46, Luke 4:34). It is also for this reason that he can perfectly save those who approach God through him.
