A reward for the faithful

Allah promises Muslims an important reward in sura 48 in verse 20:

“Allah has promised you an abundant reward that you will take… so that all this is a sign for the believers and that it guides you in a straight path . ”

This rich treasure was Khaybar, a prosperous Jewish fortress, as Ibn Kathir explains in his explanation of this verse. Mohammed decided to seize this treasure. He attacked Khaybar in the year 7 of the Hegira at night and killed almost all the men. He made women and children slaves. One of the companions of Mohammed noticed Safiyya, a pretty young Jewess, and took her to him. Muoammed had also noticed her, and offered the man two other women in exchange for the pretty Safiyya (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 52, No: 143). It was agreed. Muhammad then took Safiyya as his wife. She couldn’t refuse.

Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 52, No: 143 Narrated by ‘Anas bin Malik’

“When Allah allowed him to conquer the Fort (from Khaibar), the beauty of Safiya bint Huyai bin Akhtab was described to him. Her husband was killed while she was married. So the apostle of Allah chose her for himself and took her with him until we came to a place called Sad-AsSahba, where… he took her as his wife.”

On the first wedding night, in Khaybar or on the way back, Muhammad took Safiyya to his tent and had sexual intercourse with her without giving her her Mahr and without even respecting her mourning. Safiyya had just lost all of her family, her brother and father, killed by the hands of the men of her new “husband” Muhammad.

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, No: 367 Narrated by ‘Abdul’ Aziz:

Anas said, “When Allah’s Apostle invaded Khaibar, we offered the Fajr prayer there early in the morning while it was still dark. The Prophet mounted a camel as did Abu Talha also, and I was following Abu Talha. The Prophet went through the alley of Khaibar quickly and my knee touched the thigh of the Prophet. He uncovered his thigh and I saw the whiteness of the Prophet’s thigh. When he entered the city, he said, ‘Allahu Akbar! Khaibar is destroyed. Whenever we approach near a nation to beat us then the devil will be there early in the morning to warn them.” He repeated it three times. People had gone to work and some of them said, ‘Mohammed (has come. Some of our companions added, “With his army.” We defeated Khaibar, captured the captives and the booty was gathered. Dihya came and said, ‘O Prophet of Allah! Give me a slave girl among the captives. ‘The Prophet said,’ Go and take any girl slave. ‘He took Safiyya bint Huyai. A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Apostle of Allah! You gave Safiyya bint Huyai to Dihya and she is the mistress of the chief of the tribe of Quraiza and An-Nadir and she is suitable for no one but you. ‘So the Prophet said,’Tell him to come with her. ‘ ‘So Dihya came with her and when the Prophet saw her, he said to Dihya,’ Take any girl slave among the captives except her. ‘Anas added: The Prophet freed her from her slave condition and married her.”

Thabit asked Anas, “O Abu Hamza! What did the Prophet pay him (like Mahr)? “He said,” She was her Mahr, for he freed her from her slave condition and then married her.”Anas added , “During this time, Um Sulaim adorned her for the wedding (the ceremony) and at night she was sent as a bride to the Prophet. So the Prophet was a bridegroom and he said, ‘Whoever has food will have to bring it. ‘He spread a leather sheet (for food) and a few dates and the others cooked the butter… So they prepared a dish of Hais (a kind of meal). And it was Walima (the wedding banquet) of the Apostle of Allah.”

Before becoming the captive and wife of Muhammad, she was married to Kinana, the treasurer of the Banu Nadir, a Khaybar clan. Kinana was tortured and killed under Mohammed’s eyes to get him to confess where the treasure was hidden. Finally, part of the treasure was found and the rest remained untraceable. Muhammad delivered Kinana to Az-Zubair, saying, “Chasten him to the point of bringing forth what he hides.”

Az-Zoubair burned Kinana’s chest with flint, leaving him almost dead. Kinana was finally put to death by another companion of the prophet.

(Ibn Hisham, Conduct of the Messenger of Allah 764-5)

“Kinana ibn al-Rabi, who was the guardian of the treasure of the Banu al Nadir, was brought before the apostle who questioned him about it. He did not know where it was. A Jew arrived in front of the apostle and said that he had seen Kinana around a ruin every morning very early. The Apostle asked Kinana, “Do you know that if we find out that you have hidden it, we will kill you?” He replied, “Yes.” The apostle gave orders for the ruin to be searched and the treasure was found. Then asked where the rest of the treasure was but he refused to reveal it, so the apostle ordered al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwan: Torture him until he reveals  what he knows. Then he lit a fire with and witha flint and he burned his chest until he was almost dead. Then the apostle delivered him to Muhammad ibn Maslama, who cut off his head to avenge his brother Mahmud.”

(Ibn Hisham, Conduct of the Messenger of Allah 764-5)

Safiya later said: “I did not hate anyone ass much as the Messenger of God, he killed my father and my husband.” A soldier by the name of Abu Ayyub had remained on guard in front of the tent, sword in hand, during the whole night when Mohammed was violating Safiya.

(At-Tabarani, Volume 24, p.67)

In the early morning, the Prophet asked him why he had remained in front of the tent. Abu Ayyub said, “I was afraid for you with this woman, because you killed her father, her husband, and her people, and until recently she was in disbelief, I was afraid for you .”

(Ibn Ishaq: sirat rasul allah – The life of Muhammad, p.517)
Imagine! How can you have sex with a woman when you have just killed her husband, her brother and her father? How could he have sex with her when she hated him with all her heart. Is not that a rape? Do not you call it rape, when you force someone who hates you to have a relationship?
